UHF RFID (860-960MHz, EPC C1G2 protocol) is new data collection tool, is more advanced than current barcode system. The reasons are
1, it has long range reading, like normal reading range is 0.1-20 meters. So with advantages, RFID UHF can do many jobs for data collection.
2, it has multi tags reading ability, like it can be able to read 100 pcs/second, it exceed much that barcode system (one by one scanning barcode), with this feature, it can improve a lot in working efficient.
3, RFID UHF is not so sensitive to harsh environment, it can still work even if the tag is attached to harsh item surface. As RFID tag is made from tag antenna and RFID chip based on the base material. RFID chip have 96 bits -1024 bits memory in EPC, TID, USER and Password area. So it is not affected by light, temperature and wet, etc factor.
One complete RFID UHF hardware system consists of UHF RFID reader, UHF RFID antenna and UHF RFID tag.
RFID UHF reader is main part which is connected with PC. The software will control RFID reader and run apps on computer. The controlled RFID reader will send out its RFID signal by RFID antenna to one area which has 2-20 meters far away. RFID tag enters this RF area and gets the energy from reader and get back to reader with its tag ID.
RFID UHF antenna is connected with RFID reader to take charge of sending out the RF signal. It can extend reading range, like RFID antenna have different gain, like 2dBi, 3 dBi, 7dBi and 15 dBi.
The dBi is bigger, the larger RFID Antenna can support RFID reader to cover reading range.
RFID UHF tag is used to attach to the surface of tracked item. That mean, the tag will be always attached to item. It is the item’s ID. Example, if you want to track one cattle, you need to put RFID ear tag to cattle ear. When reader read tag ID, the data will be transferred to PC or Server through RFID reader.
